- The Nexus-7 tablet has a significant FAIL. There's no manual, just a 'quick start' guide and a quasi-manual file in the Nexus. You need to use the device to learn how to use the device. I bought several 'manuals' only to be very disappointed. One actually had 'information missing and will be added at a later date' statement under several headings. Talk about frustrating!
I pre-ordered this manual and waited several months for its release. I was not disappointed this time. Like the other "....For Dummies" books it packed more than enough knowledge into its 288 pages. It was written with the assumption that you know very little about the device and holds your hand with simple language. You don't have to be a geek to follow along (yay, I am the most non-geekish person I know.) One thing that I am especially pleased with is the smaller size (9 x 6.4 x 0.5 inches) than most "....For Dummies" books which makes it slightly larger than the device itself. It goes into my bag with my Nexus as I find myself browsing thru it anytime I have a few minutes to spare and each time I learn something new. The formatting remains the same with 'the Part of Tens' and icons to highlight critical points (tips, reminder,warning, & 'technical stuff.)

You won't regret it! - I was a little disappointed in this particular Dummies manual. It jumps right into the tablet's computer functions, such as email, digitizing your social life, etc. and gives just the shortest shrift to using the tablet as a reader, which is the main reason I bought it. I can't find anything in that small section about adjusting the font size, brightness, etc. and have had to stumble along learning in my own bumbling way important functions such as how to download books from my computer to my tablet. I would have expected a detailed chapter on this function, since I assume that many others buy a tablet primarily for reading too.

- I bought Nexus 7 for Dummies because I had purchased the off brand Hisense Sero Pro 7 (Walmart $130) and had heard correctly it used the same Android OS as the Google Nexus 7 (2012 original one). To make a long story short almost everything in the book works exactly for my tablet as described for the Google Nexus 7. I was totally unfamiliar with the Android OS but now have a fairly decent understanding of it. While there is an online user's manual for the Hisense tablet I highly recommend Nexus 7 for Dummies to anyone who needs a bit of guidance on how to use this tablet effectively.
- Bought my Dad this book for Christmas since he received a Nexus as a gift, I believe my Dad is on the edge of knowing how to travel around the PC pretty good but he has never had a Smartphone let alone a tablet.
From what I heard from him he loves the book it's great information little tips and tricks that he would have never known about. The pages are color and looks to be good quality, though it would be nice if there was a more advance section but maybe down the road there will be another book to come out.
TWO THUMBS UP FROM DAD! - I picked this up as a final piece of research before choosing a N7 over the fire hd....
It's information is fixed around the original release (8 and 16gb versions and android 4.1) so just be aware of the changes.
I read it cover to cover in a night (on a kindle no less) and bought the nexus the next day...... and i have no regrets.... - I am completely new to the world of Android devices, and since I simultaneously acquired a Google tablet and an Android phone, I found this book very useful in setting up the table to do the things I need it to do. Since it is written as a reference book, it's not meant to be read cover to cover, but it is well organized and nicely laid out for looking up specific issues. I am sure I will continue to refer to it often until I have mastered the Nexus.
- It is too bad that we can't get complete instructions with the products we buy. I'm a senior citizen, and much of this "new" technology is foreign to me. I was happy to find this book, whose writer understands my predicament. I learn something new each time I get out the book. A very good purchase.
