• I got this book because Ellen McCaffrey in her book, Astrology, its history and influence in the western world, recommended it. it's incredible the amount of old astrological lore she highlights. Campbell's book is important because he documents that the Babylonians distinguished between a spherical method of calculation from the viewpoint of the observer (todays tropical) and a cosmological method from the stars (sidereal). He gives us some reasoning for not only geocentric calculations but also heliocentric, which until Cyril Fagan were totally obscure and lost. Campbell explains that the geocentric method won because it was easier, obviously. He also documents that they had 7 planets, Moon, Sun Mercury Venus Saturn, Jupiter and Mars (Uranus was not discovered until 1788 and the other 2 afterwards).
